Cadstern is dominated by a vast arid interior. Much of the region consists of dry plains, desert, rocky plateaus, and eroded badlands, with scattered mountain systems crossing its central and northern regions.
Two prominent inland lakes occupy the southwestern interior. These lakes support cities, agriculture, fishing, and trade routes within an otherwise dry country. They are fed by seasonal rivers descending from the surrounding highlands
Cadstern has a predominantly hot, continental climate. Summers are long, dry, and extremely warm, while winter temperatures vary sharply between the desert lowlands and elevated plateaus. Rainfall is scarce and irregular, often arriving through brief but violent storms. The only exception to this are the inland lakes which moderate the climate of nearby settlements and create fertile belts of vegetation around their shores.
Cadstern’s central position makes it a natural crossroads between Zandia, Olympia, Nirvana, and the northern sea. However, its size and dryness make long-distance travel across it dangerous and costly.
