Destos is a large southern landmass with a dry, desert-dominated interior surrounded by a broad belt of greener coastal territory. Its central regions contain rocky deserts, mountain chains, barren plains, and heavily eroded highlands, while forests and fertile lowlands extend along much of the coast.

 

The interior is isolated from maritime rainfall by surrounding hills and mountains. Rivers begin in the central highlands but diminish as they enter the desert, creating seasonal channels, isolated oases, salt flats, and fertile basins. The coastal regions receive more dependable moisture and contain most of the kingdom’s agriculture, population, and major cities.

 

Destos has an intensely hot interior climate. Summers are long and extreme, with dry winds, large temperature shifts between day and night, and infrequent rainfall. The coasts are warmer and more humid, with milder temperatures and seasonal rains. The eastern peninsula is especially lush, receiving moisture from the eastern sea and supporting forests, plantations, and fertile river valleys.

The long eastern peninsula controls sea routes between Telluria, Fresta, and the southern ocean. The western coast faces Olympia and the Stormy Isles, while the northern shore overlooks the central sea and Triple Point. Destos therefore serves as a critical location in the Seven Kingdoms, although its coastal settlements are separated from one another by the difficult desert interior.
